Willamette National Forest moves to Stage 2 fire restrictions
Campfires, charcoal, chainsaws and several other ignition risks are prohibited across the forest, including developed campgrounds and wilderness areas.
A propane device with an on-off switch may still be usable. A campfire is not. Stage 2 fire restrictions now cover the entire Willamette National Forest, including developed campgrounds and wilderness areas.
The Forest Service order bars fires, charcoal, chainsaw use, welding, explosives and off-road vehicle use. Smoking is limited to enclosed vehicles or buildings, developed recreation sites, waterways, or a stopped spot cleared of flammable material. Generators need an approved spark arrestor and a 10-foot cleared area.
The narrow cooking exception matters: gas, jellied-petroleum, pressurized-liquid-fuel and propane devices must be designed to turn on and off, with at least three feet cleared around the flame. The order took effect Aug. 17 and is listed through Dec. 1 unless the forest rescinds it earlier.
