The river festival has a paddle parade and a raft-flip race
Saturday’s free River House gathering mixes on-water demos, guided rafting, competitions, music and a 60th-birthday beach party.
The Willamette River Festival has developed the kind of schedule that makes an ordinary clipboard look inadequate. Saturday begins with an 11 a.m. paddle parade from Alton Baker Park to River House Beach, then moves through rafting trips, an upstream race, paddleboard slalom, a flatwater rodeo and a raft-flip speed challenge.
The festival grounds at River House Outdoor Center are free and drop-in, with music, food, nonprofit booths, paddlecraft demonstrations, an on-water obstacle course and tree climbing. Guided raft trips and competitions require registration. The final hours turn into a beach party for the River House Outdoor Program’s 60th anniversary, with an awards ceremony at 6 p.m. and the event ending at 7.
The festival site and City of Eugene calendar do not use the same overall opening hour, so check the live schedule before aiming for a specific activity. The 11 a.m. paddle parade is consistent and concrete.
