River Road gets a seven-hour pedestrian safety push today
Eugene officers say the 8 a.m.-to-3 p.m. effort will focus on speed, crosswalk yielding and distracted driving.
River Road drivers will see a concentrated traffic-enforcement effort from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Eugene Police says the operation will focus on speeding, drivers who fail to stop for pedestrians and distracted driving.
The department's Traffic Safety Unit will be joined by patrol officers, community safety officers and other special units. The notice does not name one intersection or promise a closure; it describes a corridor-wide enforcement push.
Drivers should use the posted speed, put the phone down and stop for people in crosswalks. Residents walking or biking should continue using ordinary traffic precautions during the operation.
