Southeast Springfield's last evacuation notice is off
Lane County canceled the remaining Level 1 notice at 10 a.m. Thursday after a fast brush fire was contained without reported injuries or damaged structures.
The yellow light is off in southeast Springfield. Lane County said at 10 a.m. Thursday that the remaining Level 1 — Be Ready — evacuation notice had been canceled for the area affected by Wednesday's vegetation fire near Jasper and Mount Vernon roads.
The fire moved quickly enough Wednesday for sheriff's deputies to knock on doors, but crews stopped its forward progress at an estimated one to three acres. No injuries or damaged structures were reported in the latest checked reporting, and firefighters continued mop-up overnight.
A canceled notice means residents are no longer under that evacuation level. It does not make August grass less combustible; new smoke, flames or an emergency alert still deserves immediate attention.
