A 35,281-pound delivery lands at the food bank
The unexpected truckload brought canned food, spaghetti, dish soap and one more measure of how hard Lane County's food network is working.
A tractor-trailer from Utah reached FOOD for Lane County Thursday morning with 35,281 pounds of nonperishable food and household supplies. Lookout Eugene-Springfield reported canned food, spaghetti and liquid dish soap among the load.
The shipment came from storehouses operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. KVAL described it as the second donation from the church this year and reported that these truckloads usually weigh about 42,000 to 45,000 pounds. That average is not this truck's scale ticket; the measured 35,281-pound figure is the cleaner receipt.
FOOD for Lane County said need remains high. The shipment does not prove that every pantry has received these items or that a particular household allocation is ready. Anyone looking for food should use the organization's current food finder rather than chasing the truck.
Field notes
What changed: FOOD for Lane County received a new 35,281-pound shipment of shelf-stable food and household supplies Thursday.
Why it matters: The countywide food network is serving elevated demand, and a large shelf-stable shipment can support distribution over time.
Who may be affected: Lane County food-bank partners, pantry volunteers and households seeking groceries.
