Observes and monitors behavior of children to promote their wellbeing and safety while being transported to and from school. Focuses on and addresses specific student needs that cannot be managed from the driver's seat. Actively engaged in and involved in the safe boarding, transportation and exiting of passengers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: ' Work as a team with the driver to teach students how to ride the bus safely. ' Monitor students while on the bus; assign seats in designated areas, maintain safety and order on the bus, and provide first aid to ill or injured students when needed. ' Assist students and other passengers with safe loading and unloading from the bus in both emergency situations and regular transport at the school and/or bus stop. ' Demonstrate good judgment and effective management of student behavior in a school bus environment. ' Ensure that all passengers are in appropriate safety restraint systems and seatbelts if required. ' Understand the needs and requirements of the special education students riding the school bus based on the IEPs, and ensure proper care during the transportation process. ' Prepare for and assist with emergency evacuations. Handle emergency situations calmly and quickly. ' Attend scheduled meetings and safety programs. ' Timely report unsafe incidents, acts, or conditions which require the attention of supervisory personnel. ' Cooperate with district staff to resolve problems in a professional manner. ' Perform other related tasks as assigned by the transportation supervisor.
