About the speakers John Strong, UO SOJC Class of 2007 John Strong is Fox Sports’ lead soccer play-by-play announcer and the voice of many of the biggest soccer properties in the world, including the FIFA World Cup, US men’s national team, and Major League Soccer. He joined the Fox Soccer Channel in 2012 after serving as the voice of the Portland Timbers on radio and TV and the lead play-by-play announcer for NBC Sports. An SOJC journalism alum, Strong was active at UO’s campus radio station KWVA, where he called UO women’s soccer, softball, and lacrosse. Joey McMurry, UO SOJC Class of 2014 Joey “Mac” McMurry is the director of broadcasting and executive producer of the Oregon Sports Network where he oversees all operations of OSN and is the voice of UO men’s basketball and baseball. He also hosts the football pregame show while producing and engineering in the booth, co-hosts the Football Coaches Show, hosts the athletic department’s daily talk show, Duck Insider, and creates other content for various platforms. Also an assistant teaching professor in the UO School of Journalism and Communication, McMurry supervises the broadcast and digital track in the journalism major, teaches broadcast classes and oversees the student television practicum, Duck TV.
