The Waldo Lake fire has moved into mop-up
The wilderness fire remained at 17 acres Monday afternoon, with crews working the edges and smoke still possible north of the lake.
A fire 4.5 miles north of Waldo Lake was holding at 17 acres Monday afternoon, according to the Willamette National Forest update reported by KLCC. Crews had reached 15% containment and moved into mop-up.
The fire was detected Friday in the Three Sisters Wilderness. Helicopters dropped roughly 125,000 gallons of water that day while ground crews built hand line and hose around the perimeter. Smoke may remain visible even as crews work inward from the edge.
Seventeen acres is small by wildfire standards, but Monday's update is not a standing travel clearance. Conditions and access can change before a packed car reaches the Cascade Lakes Highway.
