East Broadway stays down to one lane while sidewalks go in
Crews are working from Mill to Patterson from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the right lane closed after Sixth Avenue.
East Broadway remains a one-lane squeeze between Mill and Patterson this week while crews excavate the south side of the street and pour a wider sidewalk, curb and gutter. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For drivers coming south from the Coburg Road viaduct, the right lane closes after Sixth Avenue. The City says the broader project will also add planting strips for street trees and a raised crosswalk at Patterson, where the change is intended to slow turning vehicles.
The lane loss is expected to continue while the project advances toward a November finish. People who do not need to be on Broadway can use another eastbound route; everyone else should expect cones, construction equipment and a slower trip.
Field notes
What changed: The current Broadway phase is pouring the widened sidewalk from Mill to Patterson while eastbound traffic remains reduced to one lane.
Why it matters: The work sits on a busy downtown-to-campus route and changes both the vehicle lane pattern and pedestrian paths.
Who may be affected: Drivers, walkers, cyclists, bus riders and businesses along East Broadway between Mill and Patterson.
