Covered-bridge work narrows two Cottage Grove roads through December
Flaggers may close one lane of Layng Road and Garoutte Road on weekdays while crews stabilize the Currin and Stewart covered bridges.
Two long-closed covered bridges east of Cottage Grove are getting stabilization work through December 31. The work does not reopen the Currin or Stewart covered bridges to vehicles or pedestrians. It can, however, narrow the modern roads beside them.
Lane County says one lane of Layng Road near Currin Covered Bridge and one lane of Garoutte Road near Stewart Covered Bridge may close at times from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, with flaggers controlling traffic. Drivers can avoid Currin by reaching Layng Road from Mosby Creek Road, and avoid Stewart by reaching Garoutte Road from Shoreview Drive.
Field notes
What changed: Weekday stabilization work is active at Currin and Stewart covered bridges, with intermittent one-lane closures on the adjacent roads through December 31.
Why it matters: The work affects local travel east of Cottage Grove even though the historic bridges themselves have been closed for years.
Who may be affected: Residents, school and service traffic, visitors and workers using Layng Road, Garoutte Road, Row River Road and Mosby Creek Road.
