Eugene says it will pay $23,400 Amazon Creek fine
The city's response is new reporting; the penalty concerns earlier restoration work.
Eugene will pay a $23,400 state environmental penalty tied to the Amazon Creek restoration project, Public Works spokesperson Marion Suitor told KLCC on October 26. The enforcement notice is dated September 9, 2026; the construction violations occurred in 2024.
DEQ describes failed work-area isolation and sediment controls, along with an excavator exposed to flowing creek water. Suitor told KLCC that heavy rain overwhelmed the project's water management and that the city considered an appeal before deciding to pay.
