About this event

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, in collaboration with the Oregon State University Extension Service Douglas County, is pleased to announce the launch of the Tribal Roots Horticulture Program, a free, bi-monthly educational series designed for tribal families. Beginning Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the program will be held on the third Tuesday and last Saturday of each month, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Agricultural Learning Center, located at 238 River Forks Park Road, Roseburg. This field-based workshop series will focus on:  Sustainable crop production  Traditional ecological knowledge  Food preservation techniques The Tribal Roots Horticulture Program offers participants the opportunity to deepen their connection to the land, preserve cultural traditions, and develop practical agricultural skills in a supportive, community-centered environment. “This initiative is about more than agriculture—it’s about stewardship, heritage, and resilience,” said Dustin Looney, program coordinator. “We invite tribal families to join us in cultivating both the land and our shared cultural roots.” Dustin will be joined by Logan Bennett, OSU Extension Service Small Farms Program Coordinator, who will be providing education and co-facilitation of the program. This will be the second longform educational program the two organizations have collaborated on since Logan joined Extension in 2022. Registration is free and open to all tribal families. To register, please contact Dustin Looney at 541-492-5289 or Dustin.looney@cowcreek-nsn.gov. Questions about the program and for accommodation requests related to a disability should be submitted by June 16, 2025, to Logan Bennett at 541-236-3015 or logan.bennett@oregonstate.edu.
