About this event
The Oregon Humanities Center hosts weekly Work-in-Progress Talks to showcase the humanities research of its many fellows. This week, Jasmine An presents her research on "Paperwork Politics: Literary Responses to Empire from the Southeast Asian Diaspora." What happens when poets write on archival documents instead of the blank page? An's project seeks to answer that question by examining the work of contemporary, Southeast Asian American poets who incorporate paperwork such as immigration documents, birth certificate applications, and declassified military memos into their poetry. Through their shared practice of "paperwork poetics," they manipulate the power of documents to critique the violence of US imperialism in Southeast Asia and its lingering echoes across the Southeast Asian American diasporas. Join us for this Work-in-Progress Talk in the OHC Conference Room (Prince Lucien Campbell Hall 159) at noon on Fridays. These events are free and open to the public.
