Ask to pause Oregon tax collection during a hardship

People who owe Oregon tax and have a temporary hardship, like job loss or disability, can ask for temporary uncollectible status.

Steps

4 steps
  1. Check that your hardship is temporaryConsider it if you have lost your job, are temporarily disabled, or expect the hardship to end in the coming months.
  2. Call Collections to applyAsk about the status and how to apply. This is for individuals owing tax, not businesses.
  3. Pay any new tax in full by its due dateIf you file a new return and owe, you must pay it on time or you can be removed from the program.
  4. Act when your finances improvePay in full, set up a payment plan, or contact DOR. Failing to act may lead to collection action.
DOR may still use your state tax refund and file a lien against your property.
