Get an Oregon construction contractor license

Anyone paid to do construction work on real property generally needs a CCB license, which takes training, an exam, a bond and insurance.

Steps

6 steps
  1. Check that your work needs a licenseThe page lists roofing, painting, carpentry, plumbing, handyman work and most repair services as needing a license.
  2. Take the 16-hour training and examThe person who passes becomes your Responsible Managing Individual. The Oregon exam costs $60.
  3. Register your business nameFile your corporation, LLC or assumed business name with the Oregon Secretary of State.
  4. Get a surety bondUse the bond amount that matches your endorsement type. The bond comes with a power of attorney.
  5. Get liability insuranceProof of general liability insurance must list the Construction Contractors Board as certificate holder.
  6. Apply online with your feeA complete application also needs a signatures form. Applications may take six to eight weeks.
