More Eugene streets are getting lower speed limits
Goodpasture Island Road has new limits, with River Loop and Wilkes Drive changes expected this month.
Drivers on Goodpasture Island Road now have two lower posted limits: 30 mph east of Delta Highway and 35 mph to the west. The city says more sign changes are coming this month on River Loop 1, River Loop 2 and Wilkes Drive.
The August work follows reductions made in March on Green Acres Road, Polk Street, Oak Patch Road, Elmira Road and Maple Street, where limits dropped to 25 mph.
These are posted changes, not suggestions waiting for a future road project. Watch the signs on familiar routes; habit is a poor speedometer.
Field notes
What changed: Goodpasture Island Road's posted limits are lower, and three more streets are scheduled for changes in August.
Why it matters: A familiar route can now carry a different legal speed even when the road itself looks unchanged.
Who may be affected: Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians along Goodpasture Island Road, River Loop and Wilkes Drive.
