Sand Prairie is 90% lined, but the campground stays closed
Forward progress has stopped on the 80-acre fire south of Oakridge; the Forest Service still asks people to avoid Road 21.
Fire crews have line around 90% of the Sand Prairie fire and stopped its forward movement, according to a Thursday evening Register-Guard report citing the Willamette National Forest. The fire remains estimated at 80 acres near Hills Creek Reservoir, about 15 miles south of Oakridge.
The travel restriction remains. Sand Prairie Campground is closed, and the Forest Service asks people to avoid the area and Forest Service Road 21 while crews reinforce line and work hot spots. No evacuation was reported.
Ninety percent lined is not a final containment or reopening notice. The cause remains under investigation, and the checked sources did not give a time for restoring access.
