The free K–12 bus pass needs a school-year renewal
Lane County students get the pass through participating schools, not directly from LTD; a summer recreation 1Pass does not replace it.

A student who rode free this summer still has one piece of back-to-school paperwork: renew the LTD Student Transit Pass through school.
The pass is available to Lane County students in public, private, charter and home schools. It works through the Umo app or a tap card and stays valid from Sept. 1 of the current school year through Sept. 30 of the next one. LTD says students should bring an existing pass to back-to-school registration for renewal.
The summer 1Pass from Willamalane or Eugene Rec is a different thing and does not cover regular LTD rides. Schools distribute the transit pass; if a school is not enrolled, LTD tells families to ask the school to contact the program.
Field notes
What changed: The 2026–27 student-pass period began Sept. 1, making school-year renewal current back-to-school business.
Why it matters: The pass removes regular LTD fares for K–12 students, but the wrong summer pass or an unrenewed school pass can leave a rider without valid fare.
Who may be affected: K–12 students in Lane County public, private, charter and home schools.
