Three cans buy a free Camp Putt round this weekend
Willamalane's pantry served twice as many people this July and August as it did during the same stretch last year.
Camp Putt is turning canned tuna, peanut butter and beans into admission this weekend. Bring three cans of food per person Sept. 18-20 and Willamalane will trade them for a free round of mini-golf at the Glenwood course.
The exchange is fun; the demand underneath it is not. Willamalane says its Adult Activity Center pantry served twice as many people in July and August 2026 as during those months in 2025. Summer events collected more than 5,000 pounds of food, but the pantry still needs help filling its shelves for fall.
Camp Putt is open 4-7 p.m. Friday and noon-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 4006 Franklin Blvd. The pantry itself is open Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. at 215 W. C St. in Springfield, with no income verification or identification required.
Field notes
What changed: Willamalane announced Putt for the Pantry for Sept. 18-20 in response to sharply higher pantry use.
Why it matters: The event turns a low-cost outing into direct pantry restocking at a time of doubled summer demand.
Who may be affected: Springfield-area households using the pantry and families looking for a weekend activity.
