Ballot processing resumes without printed envelope timestamps
Electronic barcode records let the county work around a clogged inkjet line.
Lane County resumed ballot processing November 5 after an inkjet-line clog interrupted sorting November 4. The workaround drops the printed date-and-time stamp on return envelopes; barcode scans still log that information electronically, Lookout reports.
County Clerk Tommy Gong said the problem involved sorting equipment, not the counting machines. Results remain unofficial. The county’s election page carries the resumption notice and links to its results-posting schedule.
