High-school Spanish immersion is back; the middle-school gap remains
Springfield restored a teacher and added a K-12 coordinator, while families get a Thursday meeting at Hamlin Middle School.
Springfield Public Schools has restored Spanish dual-immersion instruction at Springfield High School for this school year, according to Lookout Eugene-Springfield. The district rehired the high-school teacher using remaining state grant money and added a K-12 program coordinator.
The repair is incomplete. Lookout reports that middle-school students still do not have full immersion this year. Families can ask about the program Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Hamlin Middle School, 326 Centennial Boulevard. Spanish interpretation and bilingual child care are expected.
The district's standing pages corroborate that Hamlin houses its middle-school dual-immersion program, but they did not yet carry the new staffing decision. This edition attributes that change to Lookout rather than laundering one report into the voice of the sky.
