Three industrial exits affect nearly 200 local workers
Bowtech, Pacific Headwear and True Value are closing or moving Lane County work, leaving three large buildings behind.
A 520,000-square-foot warehouse is the largest empty box in a three-company shift affecting nearly 200 Lane County workers. True Value's Springfield distribution work is moving to Woodburn; Bowtech is moving work from Eugene; and Pacific Headwear has already eliminated 83 local jobs and left its Coburg building.
The state Rapid Response list shows 43 workers in Bowtech's July 31 filing and 83 under Pacific Headwear parent Augusta Sportswear's May filing. Eugene Weekly reports that the three companies together are laying off nearly 200 people and that all three met the threshold for state mass-layoff notices.
The buildings range from Bowtech's 87,000-square-foot Highway 99 home to the True Value warehouse, a concrete building nearly a quarter-mile long. Some are listed for sale; the Springfield warehouse is not. Vacant space is not the same thing as a replacement employer, and none of the checked sources promises one.
