UO needs movers, recyclers and guides for September move-in
Community members may carry boxes or sort recyclables Sept. 24-25; a smaller greeter role is reserved for UO faculty and staff.
University of Oregon Housing is recruiting hundreds of volunteers for Unpack the Quack on Sept. 24 and 25. Community members can sign up as movers, hauling belongings from vehicles to residence-hall rooms, or as recyclers who direct cardboard and other material to the right place.
The third role is less box-shaped. A limited number of greeters will help families find their way around campus, but those slots are reserved for UO faculty and staff. Employees are told to ask supervisors whether a shift fits department operations and whether the time will be paid or unpaid.
Registration and online training are available through the UO Housing link. Volunteers who complete at least one shift receive an event T-shirt at check-in and a University Dining meal voucher afterward.

Why it matters: Move-in concentrates thousands of new students, families, vehicles, boxes and questions into two days, and the university is asking the wider community to help manage the load.
