Downtown's empty LCC building has a 133-apartment deal and a winter demolition date
The closed sale pairs 68 income-qualified homes with 65 market-rate apartments across from the LTD station.
The long-empty former Lane Community College building at 1059 Willamette Street finally has a closed deal instead of another rendering and a hopeful verb. Eugene transferred the property this week to a development team led by deChase Miksis and Edlen & Company. Demolition is expected soon, with construction slated to begin this winter and take about 19 months.
The six-story, $38.3 million plan calls for 133 apartments: 68 income-qualified homes for households earning up to 80% of area median income and 65 market-rate units. The affordable units are to remain restricted for 35 years. Ten apartments will be reserved for survivors of domestic violence through a partnership with Hope & Safety Alliance. The project also includes ground-floor commercial space, a public art gallery and an all-electric design. No rental application window was announced, so this is a construction milestone, not an offer of housing today.
