Springfield educators launch October children’s book drive at downtown gift shop
The Springfield Education Association seeks 1,000 new and gently used books at Chuck and Alice throughout the month to support local public school students.
The Springfield Education Association has partnered with community advocates to launch a month-long book drive aiming to collect 1,000 children’s books for students across Springfield Public Schools.
Throughout October, community members can drop off new or gently used books ranging from infant and toddler board books to young adult literature. Donations are being collected at Chuck and Alice, an independent gift shop located at 414 Main Street in downtown Springfield. The shop accepts donations during regular hours: Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The association, which represents more than 500 certified educators and staff across the district, emphasizes that books will go directly into classroom libraries and home reading bags. Donors are asked to provide clean, undamaged books; textbooks and magazines cannot be accepted.
