Big Ten acknowledges bad spot in Oregon's narrow UCLA loss
The conference says officials misplaced the ball on a late conversion retry; the 17–15 result stands.
The Big Ten has acknowledged an officiating error during Oregon's late comeback attempt against UCLA. In Saturday's 17–15 loss at Autzen Stadium, Oregon tried for two points after a fourth-quarter touchdown. Quarterback Brock Thomas was stopped short, but a UCLA facemask penalty gave the Ducks another attempt.
According to the conference account reported by Reuters, officials placed the ball using half the distance from the original line of scrimmage, rather than the point where Thomas' run ended. Oregon's next attempt was stopped, and the score remained 17–15. The league said it had contacted its officiating team and would emphasize correct application of the rules. The acknowledgment does not change the final score.
