Springfield warming-center plans remain unsettled as Egan funding shrinks
The operator is preparing for winter with reduced funding and an unresolved Springfield site.
Springfield's place in this winter's Egan Warming Center network remains uncertain. St. Vincent de Paul operations director Bill Bernard told KLCC that federal disruptions had roughly halved operating funding over the past year and a half.
Bernard said volunteers and donations remain important to preparations. This is winter planning, not an announcement that a warming center is open tonight. The operator posts specific sites for each activated night on its website.
Field notes
What changed: KLCC reported new details of winter preparations Monday.
Why it matters: Plans and actual overnight availability are different things.
Who may be affected: People needing cold-weather shelter and potential volunteers.
