High surf reaches Florence beaches through Sunday night
Breakers could reach 33 feet; the active advisory lasts until 10 p.m.
Florence beach plans need extra caution. The National Weather Service's high surf advisory for the central Oregon coast remains effective until 10 p.m. Sunday, November 8. Its early-morning update forecasts breakers up to 33 feet.
Waves can unexpectedly wash over beaches and jetties. NWS advises staying well back from the water and keeping children and pets away from the surf zone. Stay off nearby rocks, jetties and logs.
If someone is swept into the sea, call 911, keep them in sight and do not swim after them.
Field notes
What changed: The high surf advisory is now effective; the separate beach hazards statement expired.
