South Lane Wheels has stopped running after 44 years
The door-to-door transportation nonprofit ended operations after Aug. 7, leaving riders to recheck every old listing before planning a trip.
South Lane Wheels is no longer taking people to medical appointments, grocery stores or errands. The Cottage Grove nonprofit ended all operations after Aug. 7, closing a 44-year run of accessible door-to-door transportation across southern Lane and northern Douglas counties.
KLCC reported that the nonprofit lost funding and could not find a workable replacement. Its riders included older adults, veterans and people with disabilities — people for whom a vanished ride can mean a missed appointment rather than an inconvenience.
Some standing web pages still describe South Lane Wheels or an LTD Connector service as active. They had not caught up with the closure when this edition was checked. Route 98 remains an official fixed-route option between Cottage Grove, Creswell and Eugene; riders who may qualify for paratransit should confirm current RideSource options directly before traveling.
