Air conditioning reaches more schools, but 4J's work is not finished
Bethel, 4J and Springfield families will see cooling, accessibility, playground, greenhouse and security work when students return.
Students are not returning to brand-new schools, but many buildings will look or feel different. A fresh district-by-district report says Bethel added air conditioning at Danebo and Irving elementary schools, while Meadow View gained renovated classrooms, accessible bathrooms, changing tables and a fenced playground area for students moving from the closed Shasta Middle School. Bethel's own project page confirms the larger Danebo addition and cooling work.
In 4J, crews installed air-conditioning units in priority rooms at 11 elementary and middle schools. The important caveat is that the districtwide work is not complete and installation is expected to continue until next fall. Four elementary schools also received new playground equipment and shelters.
Springfield's most visible change may be Thurston High School's renovated 1970s greenhouse, with new exterior panels, ventilation, year-round plumbing, irrigation and more accessible walkways. The district also worked on security systems, roofs, fences, bathrooms and gym floors at multiple sites.
