Florence's opioid treatment clinic has $1.3 million for staff and a July 2027 target
Lane County accepted state settlement money for nine positions at a planned medication-assisted treatment clinic on Highway 101, where coastal service is currently missing.
$1.3 million in state opioid-settlement money will help Lane County staff a planned treatment center in Florence for its first two years. Commissioners accepted the grant Tuesday.
The county expects the clinic to serve at least 30 people when it opens and as many as 100 by the end of its first year. Nine full-time positions are planned, including a program manager, two nurses and two qualified mental-health professionals. The service will include methadone-based medication-assisted treatment; Lane County says that form of care is not currently available on the Oregon coast between Coos Bay and Seaside.
The county plans to renovate a former medical clinic at 4480 Highway 101, seek construction bids before the holidays and open in July 2027. That schedule is still a target. The grant pays for startup staffing, not an immediate opening or a guarantee that construction will stay on time.
Field notes
What changed: Lane County commissioners accepted a $1.3 million Oregon Health Authority grant for startup staffing at the planned Florence Treatment Center.
Why it matters: The clinic would bring medication-assisted opioid treatment to a long coastal gap and could serve 30 people immediately, growing to 100 within its first year.
Who may be affected: People seeking opioid-use-disorder treatment in Florence and the central Oregon coast, their families, health providers and Lane County treatment staff.
