The first Airo trains enter Cascades service Wednesday, with Eugene on two launch trips
Train 503 is scheduled to reach Eugene at 1:48 p.m., and Train 508 leaves Eugene for Seattle at 4:30 p.m. as Amtrak begins phasing in the new fleet.

Eugene is on both ends of the first day's Airo rollout Wednesday, September 30. Southbound Train 503 is scheduled to arrive from Seattle at 1:48 p.m.; northbound Train 508 leaves Eugene for Seattle at 4:30 p.m. Two other launch trips run between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia.
The new trainsets seat more than 300 passengers and add panoramic windows, Wi-Fi, power and USB outlets, touchless restroom controls and improved accessibility. They will not replace the entire Cascades fleet overnight. Amtrak plans to add more of the eight new trainsets through early 2027.
The schedule matters more than the preview-car sparkle: the launch puts new equipment directly into regular Eugene service. Riders should still check Amtrak for the operating train and any same-day change before heading to the station.
Field notes
What changed: Amtrak's Airo fleet begins carrying Cascades passengers September 30, including one arrival in Eugene and one departure from Eugene on launch day.
Why it matters: The rollout brings more than 300 seats per trainset, new accessibility features and modern passenger amenities to the rail corridor linking Eugene with Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, B.C.
Who may be affected: Amtrak Cascades riders, Eugene rail travelers and people considering an alternative to driving the I-5 corridor.
