Girls flag football becomes a sanctioned Oregon high school sport
The OSAA approved the move Monday; the first officially sanctioned season begins in spring 2027.
Oregon girls flag football is moving from emerging activity to official varsity sport. The Oregon School Activities Association voted Monday, October 12, to sanction it after the sport completed two years in provisional status.
According to Lookout Eugene-Springfield, 57 varsity teams took part last spring. The first sanctioned season is set for spring 2027, although the detailed competition calendar has not been established. For students and schools interested in building teams, the vote creates a formal path forward rather than another year of provisional play.
