Organization profiles, roles, and flair

Request an approved organization page, invite your team, manage roles, and customize your affiliation flair.

What this does

Approved organizations get a public LaneHelp page at lanehelp.com/your-org-slug, an Org Mode dashboard, team membership with simple roles, and a custom affiliation flair members can show on their profiles.

When to use it

Read this if you run or help run a nonprofit, shelter, clinic, government team, outreach team, mutual-aid group, or community program and want an official LaneHelp presence.

What you need

A signed-in LaneHelp account and access to your organization’s email. Approval is reviewed by LaneHelp moderation — organization pages are curated, not open self-serve profiles.

Requesting a page

From request to approval

  1. Submit the request

Open the request flow. Claim an existing Page, request a new one, or suggest one for review. You’ll see a live preview of your public address (lanehelp.com/your-org-name) under the name field.

  2. Moderation review

LaneHelp reviews the request, checks for duplicates and impersonation, confirms your relationship to the organization, and connects any existing directory listings or shelter records. Email verification confirms mailbox access, not authority — approval is always a human decision.

  3. Approval

Approved requesters become the organization Owner and get Org Mode: the organization dashboard for posts, public profile edits, team, and settings.

Members represent affiliation only — the organization’s flair on their personal profile — with no management access. Owners cannot leave until ownership is transferred.

Inviting your team

From the dashboard Team section, Owners and Admins can invite staff two ways: by email (an invite link for people without LaneHelp accounts) or by username (an in-app invitation to an existing account). Username invitations appear in the person’s notifications and on their invitations page, where they can accept, decline, or report the invitation.

  • Anyone can disable organization invitations entirely in invitation settings — opted-out accounts never appear in invitation search.
  • Members can leave an organization at any time from the same page.
  • Members can keep their membership but hide the flair from their public profile in profile settings.
  • Invitations, role changes, removals, and ownership changes are all kept in the organization’s audit history.

Affiliation flair

Every approved organization can design a compact flair tag — like [White Bird] or [SVdP] — shown beside affiliated members’ names. The flair editor has a full color picker, two- and three-color gradients, and a live preview showing the flair in a mock profile header on light and dark backgrounds at mobile and desktop sizes.

  • The short name requires LaneHelp moderation approval — duplicates, impersonation, misleading abbreviations, and authority-claiming names like “Official” are rejected.
  • Colors and gradients are self-serve once the short name is approved, but must meet a readable-contrast requirement; the editor warns and can recommend a readable text color.
  • Flair links to the organization’s public page and signals confirmed LaneHelp membership only — never professional licensing, identity verification, or government authority.

What organizations can and cannot edit

Your organization page (description, posts, hours, contact info, customization) is yours to manage. The LaneHelp directory stays moderated: linked-listing changes are submitted as update requests, reviewed by LaneHelp, and the public listing stays unchanged until approval — see updating a listing. Live shelter beds can only be published by organizations whose shelter link LaneHelp has confirmed — see shelter bed status.

Safety and security

  • Sensitive actions (invitations, role changes, flair changes, bed updates) are rate-limited and recorded in an audit log.
  • Report suspicious invitations from your invitations page; report organizations or posts from their public page.
  • If your organization account is compromised or you’ve lost access, contact LaneHelp — moderation can suspend an organization or remove verification while it’s sorted out.

Common questions

We already appear in the directory — do we still need a page?

The directory listing is the moderated public record of your services. An organization page adds a presence you manage: posts, team, flair, and a shareable lanehelp.com address. Claiming links the two.

Our flair short name was rejected. Now what?

The review note in the flair editor explains why. Adjust the short name and resubmit — colors are kept.

Can an Admin remove the Owner?

No. Only the Owner can change roles or transfer ownership.

What happens to my profile if I leave an organization?

The affiliation flair disappears from your profile immediately. Your account is otherwise unchanged.
