Checking shelter availability
See reported bed availability, who each shelter serves, check-in rules, and what to confirm before traveling.
What this does
The Shelter page lists local shelters with their most recently reported availability, intake notes, and contact details.
When to use it
Use it when someone needs a place to sleep tonight, or you are helping someone plan before evening check-in times.
What you need
Nothing to look. A phone helps a lot: shelter information changes fast, and calling before traveling is the single most important step.

Finding a bed tonight
Open the Shelter page
It is on the bottom bar on phones and in the top navigation on computers.
Scan the reported status
Each shelter shows its latest reported availability and when that report came in. Newer is more trustworthy.
Read who it serves and check-in rules
Shelters serve different groups — adults, families, youth, women — and have check-in windows, ID rules, or referral requirements. The notes save wasted trips.
Call before traveling
A reported open bed is a signal, not a reservation. Beds fill between updates. Call the number on the listing to confirm before crossing town.
Plan the trip

For outreach workers and helpers
The shelter page has a print view for posting or handing out, and shelter listings can be added to a Quick Sheet. Approved shelter operators can update their own status — see How organizations use LaneHelp.
Common questions
Can I reserve a bed through LaneHelp?
No. No website can hold a shelter bed. LaneHelp shows the latest report and the phone number; the shelter itself handles intake.
How current are the bed numbers?
Each shelter card shows when its status was last reported — some update daily, some less often. Treat anything older than today with extra caution and call.
What if every shelter shows full?
Call anyway if it is late — cancellations happen. Check alerts for emergency weather shelters, look at the safe parking listings in the directory, and see When no results appear for more paths.
If something goes wrong
A shelter’s listed rules were different when I arrived.
Rules change faster than any listing. Use the Report button on that shelter’s listing so the notes get fixed for the next person.
