Your public profile
Your public profile is your page on LaneHelp, at an address based on your username. You choose who can see it, which sections it shows, and whether it’s listed or searchable.

- What it does
- A page about you that you edit in place, with sections you pick and privacy settings you control.
- Good for
- Choosing a username, deciding what to share, or hiding your profile.
- You’ll need
- A LaneHelp account and a username.
Pick a username#
Your username becomes your profile’s address: /community/ followed by your username. Set it in username settings, or tap Change username on your account page. It can be 2 to 60 characters of letters, numbers, dots, dashes, and underscores, and it has to start and end with a letter or number. LaneHelp shows usernames, not real names.
You can change it once every 30 days, so pick one you can live with for at least a month.
Choose who can see it#
Profiles start out public, and LaneHelp lists public usernames by default. Change that any time.
| Setting | Who can see your profile | Listed in Community |
|---|---|---|
| Everyone (Public) | Anyone | Yes, unless you turn the listing off |
| Only people with the link (Unlisted) | Anyone you give the link to | No |
| Only me (Private) | Just you | No |
Set this from Privacy while editing your profile, or from Profile visibility in account settings. That same settings area holds the separate choices: List my username in the Community neighbors panel, Show region on my public profile, Allow search engines to index my public profile, and Who can message you. Tap Save settings when you’re done.
Edit it in place#
Open your profile
From your account, tap Edit my profile. Or visit your profile and tap Edit profile in the corner.
Edit what you see
Change your photo, cover image, headline, pronouns, and bio right on the page. Your username is changed separately, from your account.
Add sections
Tap Add section for things like Posts, Links, Interests, Ways I can help, Resources, Events, Field Notes, and Contributions.
Arrange and style
Each section’s menu has Move up, Move down, Size and layout, Hide from profile, and Remove. Style sets colors and the header layout.
Finish up
Changes save as you go. Tap Done when you’re finished.
