A community board of rooms for rent in shared homes, with private messaging through LaneHelp.

When you’re looking for a room or a roommate, or you have space to offer.

Nothing to browse. Posting, saving, messaging, reporting, and blocking need a free account.

Your first visit starts with a short introduction; Skip introduction gets you straight to the rooms. Then choose Find a Room or List Available Space.

Find a room#

  1. Filter the list

    Under Rooms currently listed, pick a City, set a Maximum monthly rent, and choose a Room type: private or shared.

  2. Open a listing

    You’ll see photos, About the space, Household expectations, any accessibility features, and a Monthly cost breakdown with an estimated monthly total.

  3. Reach out privately

    Contact through LaneHelp starts a private message. Phone numbers and email addresses stay out of listings.

  4. Keep track

    Save listing adds it to the Saved rooms tab in My Listings.

List a room#

List Available Space walks you through five steps: Photos & city, Home & room, Costs, Household, and Terms & preview. Add 1 to 10 photos that don’t give away the location: no house numbers, mail, or license plates. Spell out every monthly cost. Describe the home and the household, not the kind of person you want.

Before publishing, you confirm that you have authority to offer the room and that you removed private and discriminatory content. Listings that look like spam, scams, public contact details, or discriminatory language wait for a moderator before they appear.

Run your listings from My Listings: Renew 30 days, Edit, Pause, Mark filled, or Delete. Listings expire after 30 days unless you renew them.

Stay safe#

LaneHelp doesn’t inspect homes, run background checks, handle deposits, or become part of a rental agreement. If something feels off, use Report (reasons include scams, discrimination, unsafe behavior, and already filled) or Block. The full safety guidance has more.

Questions people ask

How do I find a roommate or shared housing?
Open Shared Housing, choose Find a Room, and filter by city, rent, and room type.
Can people see my address?
No. Listings show the city only. Keep your address, phone number, and email out of the listing; messages go through LaneHelp.
How long does a listing stay up?
Thirty days. Renew it from My Listings, or pause it or mark it filled when things change.
Is LaneHelp the landlord?
No. LaneHelp hosts the board and the messages. It doesn’t own or inspect properties, collect rent, or guarantee anyone.
